Billikens rally to earn series split
The Colonials (19-12, 8-4) led throughout the contest, and enjoyed a 6-2 lead going to the eighth inning. SLU's Ryan Hernandez then changed the tenor of the contest with a three-run homer with two gone in the frame.
In the ninth, Saint Louis (15-24, 5-3) had a runner at second with two away before five straight reached in the last-ditch rally. The tying run came across on a bases-loaded walk before a two-run single gave the Billikens their first lead of the day and ultimately a series split.
GW received a great start on the hill from Connor Harris, who pitched into the sixth inning for the first time in his career. The sophomore set a new career high with seven strikeouts, allowing just a run on two hits.
Offensively, GW was led by Cade Fergus, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, and Derek Ripp, who collected a two-run double and an RBI triple on the day. Anthony Frechette, Domenic Boselli and Steve Barmakian all notched two-hit days as well.
The Buff & Blue will now take the mid-week off from action before returning to A-10 play next weekend at George Mason. The series starts on Friday at 3 p.m. with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday and the finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.
