Buff & Blue return home this weekend
TOWSON, Md. - GW softball had its 11-game winning streak extinguished on Thursday afternoon, dropping a 3-1 decision at Towson in non-conference action.
The Buff and Blue scored first before the Tigers tied it on Mackenzie Lake's solo home run in the fifth and went ahead on a two-run double by Madison Wilson in the sixth.
GW's nationally-ranked offense was slowed down by Towson pitcher Julia Jackson, who limited the Buff and Blue to an unearned run and four hits in a complete-game victory.
GW scored its run in the fourth inning, aided by a pair of Towson errors, with Faith Weber's groundout bringing home pinch runner Darbie Stancil.
Weber also delivered four shutout innings in the circle for the visitors to lower her season ERA to 1.81.
Alexa Williams, Hannah Eslick, Amber Lotz and Olivia Vinyard posted hits for the Buff and Blue, while Jessica Linquist continued her strong run at the top of the lineup, reaching all three times with two walks and an HBP.
Looking to continue their perfect start to Atlantic 10 play, the Colonials welcome Dayton to the Mount Vernon Campus this weekend for four games with doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
