Colonials host Tigers Wednesday
WASHINGTON - After a week off from action, GW baseball is set for a busy week with five games on the docket, beginning with a mid-week affair against Towson on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: GW started off A-10 play with a bang, beating preseason favorite VCU in three straight one-run games to earn its first series victory over the Rams since 2013. Domenic Boselli led the offensive attack, hitting .500 with two doubles and the game-winning home run on Sunday. The Colonial pitching staff posted a 3.65 ERA in the four games against the top scoring offense in the league entering the weekend.
MR. 400: Despite seeing his hitting streak snapped at 15 games, Steve Barmakian continues to lead the A-10 in batting as the only hitter in the league over .400 (.402), coming in 30th nationally. Barmakian is the top hitter for the program that ranks second in the A-10, and 18th nationally, with a .300 team batting average.
SETTING THE TABLE: Cade Fergus reached safely in all four games against VCU and has now reached safely in 20 straight games this season, by far the longest on the team. Fergus, who started the season as the No. 9 hitter, has moved into the leadoff spot and is third among regulars with a .419 OBP while pacing the team with 19 runs scored.
ABOUT THE TIGERS: Towson is 13-21 on the season following a two-game non-conference sweep over A-10 foe Fordham on Saturday. The Tigers and Colonials were scheduled to meet on March 24, but had the game postponed due to inclement weather.
Billy Godrick is the top hitter among regulars for the Tigers, hitting .259 with 11 extra-base hits and 11 RBI. GW is 41-10-2 against Towson all-time, finishing out the 2020 shortened season with a 5-2 loss in the last meeting.
