Faith Weber hit three homers in Sunday's doubleheader sweep
Weber was one of three Colonials to go deep in a 10-2 win in six innings to open the day before hitting two more homers and tying a program record with six RBIs in a 11-0 win in five innings to finish the home-and-home series.
For the second straight day, Weber and Sierra Lange were also excellent in the circle, both earning complete-game victories.
For the weekend, GW outscored the Mount, 40-2, with three of the four wins via run rule thanks to a .440 team batting average and a 0.61 staff ERA.
In total, the Buff and Blue smashed nine home runs in the series with Weber responsible for four of them.
GW 10, MSM 2 (6 innings):Â The Buff and Blue flexed their collective power in the opener with six of the team's 13 hits going for extra bases.
Jenna Cone got things started in the top of the first, launching her second homer in as many days and the 58th of her career.
The Colonials picked up two more in the second thanks to run-scoring hits from Sidney Bloomfield and Jessica Linquist before Weber's first homer of the day made it 5-0 in the third inning.
An inning later, Alessandra Ponce provided her first home run of the season to extend the advantage to 7-1, and the offense kept on rolling, adding on two more in the fifth and one in the sixth to reach double digits.
Bloomfield went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored in the opener, while Linquist, Lange and Ponce also turned in multi-hit performances.
In the circle, Lange was dinged for a pair of extra-base hits that produced runs but otherwise maintained control, striking out seven Mountaineers over the six innings in her second complete-game win of the weekend.
GW 11, MSM 0 (5 innings):Â Weber was the star of the second game with her sparkling all-around effort.
The graduate student from New Egypt, N.J., got the scoring started with her two-run shot in the second, and an inning later, she broke the game open with a two-out grand slam to the opposite field as part of a seven-spot for the Colonials. The six RBIs tie a program single-game mark also shared by Hilary King (2007) and Autumn Taylor (2013).
In the circle, Weber cruised through the Mount lineup for the second straight afternoon, tossing a three-hit shutout with five Ks. On the weekend, she recorded 11 scoreless innings and allowed just eight hits.
Of course, Weber had plenty of help in the weekend finale with nine Colonials recording runs scored and eight producing hits.
Cone had two hits and two RBIs, while Lange finished with a pair of knocks and two runs scored. Bloomfield also notched a pair of singles to finish the day a perfect 5-for-5.
First-year Alexa Williams drove in a pair, finishing a tremendous weekend with four extra-base hits and 10 RBIs.
UP NEXT:Â GW is scheduled to host Villanova for a doubleheader on the Mount Vernon Campus on Thursday afternoon before traveling to UMBC for four games over two days next weekend.
