First-year Bailey Aaron scored a career-high four goals
WASHINGTON – The GW lacrosse team played No. 12 Richmond to the final minute before the Spiders ultimately earned the narrow 15-14 victory over the Buff and Blue on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Richmond tallied four goals in the first ten minutes of action before GW went on a 4-1 scoring run, cutting the Spiders' lead to one. The two teams traded a pair of goals to close out the first half. Alana Greene led GW at the break with two goals.
It was Richmond who scored first to open up the second half of play. Sophia Watkinson and Bailey Aaron quickly responded for GW, knotting the game at eight. The Spiders went on to score five-in-a-row, giving Richmond the largest lead of the game at 13-8.
Watkinson and Greene netted two within the same minute, but Richmond found the back of the net two more times to restore the five-goal advantage.
Led by Katelyn Walker, GW went on a 4-0 scoring run in the final minutes of regulation. Aaron scored three consecutive goals to get GW within one goal heading into the last minute of play. On the home team's final possession, an offside call gave the Spiders the ball back for the remaining seconds of regulation. GW would never regain control, dropping its first A-10 conference matchup of the season.
