Cross Country Opens Season on Friday

Colonials to compete at Richmond Invite
WASHINGTON - GW cross country is set to open up its delayed and abbreviated 2020-21 season on Friday afternoon, competing in the Richmond Invite at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville, Va. The women will kick things off with the 5k race at 2 p.m., followed by the men's 8k race at 2:45 p.m.
PRESEASON PROGNOSTICATIONS: The women's team enters the season ranked ninth in the Mid-Atlantic region for the second straight year, placing second among A-10 teams (La Salle, 6th). The women achieved the highest ranking in program history last year, reaching as high as seventh during the season.
ABOUT LAST YEAR: The women's team finished a program-best ninth at the Mid-Atlantic Regional in 2019 headlined by Suzanne Dannheim's qualification for the national meet. Among returners, Margaret Coogan finished 39th at the regional meet with the fifth-fastest 6k time ever for the women. Seniors Kathryn Nohilly (68th) and Oliva Horgan (109th) also placed at the regional meet.
YOUTH IS SERVED: Friday will be the anticipated debut for seven new members of the Buff & Blue on the men's and women's side. The entire men's lineup is underclassmen with returners Ben Foltz, James Glockenmeier and Lucas Brown the most veteran members of the group as sophomores. Glockenmeier placed 87th at the regional meet in his freshman campaign last year.
