Gymnastics Falls to Towson in Season Opener

First-year Kendall Whitman shines in Buff and Blue debut
TOWSON, M.D. - The GW gymnastics team opened up its 2021 season in dual-meet action with EAGL foe Towson. The Tigers came out on top, edging the Colonials 196.150-192.950.
GW's 192.950 came behind team scores of 47.425 on bars, 47.925 on beam, 48.700 on floor and 48.900 on vault.
First-year Kendall Whitman posted scores above the 9.800 mark in all three of the events she competed in. She led GW on floor, posting a 9.950, a score good enough for a program-record.
Whitman's stellar performance on floor featured a front-double-tuck and a front-double-full into a front-layout earning her first place on the podium.
Deja Chambliss and Whitman topped the podium with identical 9.875s on vault.
ROTATION ONE
GW got out to a slow start, posting its lowest score of the night on the uneven bars (47.425). Captain Anna Warhol and Chambliss paced the Buff and Blue both earning 9.725s. Olivia Raymond earned a 9.55. Olivia Zona registered a 9.65. Anneliese Silverman (8.775) and Hannah Munnelly (8.700) closed out the first rotation.
ROTATION TWO
Hannah Cohen led GW on beam earning a 9.850, while Whitman followed close behind with a 9.800. Zona came in third place for GW, posting a 9.70. Katya Karpova registered a 9.450 in her sole event for the night. Chambliss added a 9.125 to her all-around score. Silverman recorded an 8.725 closing out GW's beam rotation.
ROTATION THREE
Chambliss earned second on floor with a 9.900. Rachel Kaplan registered a 9.825. Warhol came in fourth for GW with a 9.775. Cydney Crasa posted a 9.250, while Zona closed out floor with a 9.050.
ROTATION FOUR
GW posted its highest score of the night on vault, with each individual score above the 9.625 mark. Warhol earned a 9.825. Crasa registered a 9.675. Nora Houseman earned a 9.650 in her only event. Munnelly capped the Colonials' night with a 9.625.
UP NEXT
GW will be on the road again next Friday, when it travels to N.C. State in tri-meet action with Oklahoma. First rotation is slated for 6 p.m.
