
Swimming & Diving Finishes Strong at Big Al Invite

Marek Osina claimed victory in the 200 back on Sunday
PRINCETON, N.J. - GW swimming and diving wrapped up a strong weekend at Princeton's Big Al Invitational on Sunday, highlighted by an individual win from Marek Osina.
The senior swimmer claimed the 200-yard backstroke, closing strong for a time of 1:43.84 to win by more than a second. Durde Matic (200 fly), Stine Omdahl Petersen (200 breast), Carly Perri (200 fly) and Erin McCarthy (1,650 free) also recorded top-five finishes on the meet's final day.
The Buff and Blue finished a three-day stay facing strong competition at DeNunzio Pool with three new Atlantic 10 records and a slew of new entries on their all-time top 10 list.
In the team standings, the women clinched a fourth-place finish with 539 points, behind Utah (1,005), Princeton (849) and Denver (639) and in front of Rutgers (513), and the men were fifth with 469 points, behind Utah (1,075.5), Princeton (1,015.5) and Denver (529.5).
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- Osina dropped 2.09 seconds from his prelims swim to win the 200 back. The senior's time moves him up to third place on the program's all-time top 10. It was his first individual win of the meet after runner-up finishes in the 200 IM and 400 IM.
- Osina was also part of a fourth-place effort in the meet-closing 400 free relay, teaming with Matic, Tyler Kawakami and Karol Mlynarczyk to finish in 2:56.51.
- Following up his record-breaking victory in the 100 fly on Saturday night, Matic placed fourth in the 200 fly. His finals time of 1:46.34 ranks second on the program's all-time top list behind only Emils Pone's conference record in the event. Connor Rodgers (1:50.58 prelims) and Josh Legge (1:50.61 prelims) qualified for the B final and finished 12th and 13th, respectively.
- GW won all three 200 back finals. Mlynarczyk took the B final in 1:46.23, dropping more than a second from his prelims time, while Kaden Schwaiger (1:48.61) captured the C final. Bode Ringenbach (1:49.29) also scored in the event in 14th.
- Kawakami placed seventh in the 100 free after posting a season-best time of 44.30 seconds during prelims.
- DH Hwang led the way in the 1,650 free with a 13th-place finish in 15:41.91. First-year Philip Moldovanu's 15th-place time of 15:45.17 puts him sixth on the program's all-time list.
- Spencer Bystrom finished ninth in platform diving with a score of 228.90.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- In her third championship final of the weekend, Perri paced the Buff and Blue in the 200 fly, finishing fourth. The graduate student's prelims time of 2:01.92 ranks fourth on the program's all-time list. Rookies Molly Smyers (seventh, 2:03.50 prelims) and Julia Knox (11th, 2:03.49) also cracked the all-time top 10 with their performances.
- Petersen landed fourth in the 200 breast, dropping more than a second off her prelims time to finish in 2:16.56. Courtney Sicinski (13th, 2:20.24) and Ava DeAngelis (16th, 2:26.63) also scored in that event.
- McCarthy finished fifth in the 1,650 free in 16:50.22. Smyers landed another entry on the program's all-time top 10 with her ninth-place time of 17:06.04, and fellow newcomer Taylor Bernosky was 10th in 17:17.44.
- GW qualified three for the B final of the 200 back. Marlee Rickert won the race for ninth in 2:00.97, and Isabel Berdecio (2:02.54) finished right behind. Andrea Ho (2:02.25) put together a strong prelims swim in the event and finished 15th in the 200 fly (2:06.45), as well.
- Becca Brown led the Buff and Blue with an 11th-place finish in the 100 free in 51.62 seconds. Grace Olivardia (12th, :51.73 prelims) and McCarthy (16th, :51.86 prelims) were also part of the B final.
- Perri, Brown, Olivardia and Rebecca Smolcic made up GW's top entry in the 400 free relay, finishing seventh in 3:26.48.
- Dara Reyblat was GW's top diver in the platform competition, finishing 12th with a season-high score of 202.30.
