GW to begin 2022 season with Lindsey Ferris Invitational
STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - The George Washington gymnastics team was picked to finish fifth in the 2022 East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Preseason Poll, the organization announced on Wednesday.
The preseason poll is based on ranking projections given by the head coaches of the eight EAGL affiliated schools. GW earned 35 points and one first-place vote to claim the fifth spot
NC State topped the list with 58 points and two first-place votes, and Towson clinched the second spot. Reigning 2021 EAGL champion Temple tied with New Hampshire for third place.
The Buff & Blue return 11 letterwinners and welcome six newcomers (five first-years, one transfer) in 2022. Among those returning are Deja Chambliss and Kendall Whitman. Last season, Chambliss competed as an individual on vault at NCAA Regionals in Salt Lake City. Chambliss now returns as a co-captain with fellow senior Olivia Zona. Whitman earned Rookie of the Week honors twice throughout her first season in the Buff & Blue and was named the 2021 EAGL Champion on floor. Perhaps the most memorable achievement of Whitman's first season was her 9.950 floor performance during her first collegiate meet at Towson on Feb. 12, 2021.
GW will open its 2022 campaign at home for the annual Lindsey Ferris Invitational on Jan. 16 at 1 p.m.
