Matic, Knox, Ringenbach & Reyblat honored
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - For the second straight week, GW swimming and diving has swept the Atlantic 10 weekly awards.
This time, Durde Matic and Julia Knox collected Performer of the Week honors, while Bode Ringenbach and Dara Reyblat received the Rookie Performer of the Week awards. In addition, Ringenbach was tabbed as the GWsports.com Colonial of the Week in recognition of his strong performance on the national stage at the Speedo Winter Junior Championships.
Matic was honored for the second straight week and third time this fall, continuing a remarkable run during a series of time trials at Navy last Friday.Â
The junior from Belgrade, Serbia, posted a time of 46.14 seconds in the 100 fly that broke the pool record at Lejeune Hall held by 28-time Olympic medalist Michael Phelps. He also made his collegiate debut in the 200 free and posted a time that ranks ninth in the A-10 this season.
Knox shined vs. top competition at the Speedo Winter Junior Championships in Greensboro, N.C., qualifying for finals in the 200 breast on Saturday with a time of 2:17.82 that ranks fourth in program history before placing 23rd.
The rookie from Craigavon, Northern Ireland, recorded a personal-best swim in the 400 IM of 4:23.79 to move up one spot to No. 6 on the program's all-time list, and she posted a strong effort in the 200 IM to finish in 2:02.91, as well.
Competing in his home state, Ringenbach posted four season-best times at the junior national meet, highlighted by a 10th-place finish in the 400 IM in a career-best time that is an NCAA B-cut.Â
He also clocked an all-time top 10 time in the 200 fly (1:49.68) and finished among the top 30 in both the 200 IM (1:50.30) and 200 breast (2:02.18). It's his second Rookie Performer of the Week award of the fall.
Reyblat secured a platform diving program record at Navy with a score of 213.83 to best a mark posted earlier this season by teammate Jamie Doak. The first-year from Sherman Oaks, Calif., was one of six Buff and Blue divers to set a personal best at the meet.
GW heads into winter break following a tremendous fall in which it set five total program records and made 25 new additions to its all-time top 10 list while totaling seven Performer of the Week awards and six Rookie Performer of the Week honors. The Buff and Blue will return to action on Jan. 22, 2022, in a local dual meet at Georgetown.
