Elmacioglu, Robinson, Harrison to join program in fall of 2022
WASHINGTON – GW volleyball head coach Sarah Bernson has announced the addition of three student-athletes for the 2022 season. Setter Dilara Elmacioglu, defensive specialist Amina Robinson and middle blocker Olivia Harrison all signed National Letters of Intent to join the program next fall.Â
"The joy of recruiting is when you get to know high school athletes, see their growth and track their progress," said Bernson. "These three athletes are fantastic people who are focused and excited to play at the collegiate level.
"Having known all three for over a year, this is a special moment for them and our program," said Bernson. "This announcement is just the first one for a transformative class for GW volleyball. I look forward to GW volleyball fans seeing them in the Buff & Blue."
Dilara Elmacioglu | Setter | 6-0 | Gaziantep, Turkey
Elmacioglu heads to the District from Gaziantep, Turkey, where the 6-foot setter attended Okyanus High School. Elmacioglu played for the Sultans League in 2019-20 and was a CEV Challenge Cup participant. She also came in fifth place at the 2019 Youth Turkey League.Â
Elmacioglu on choosing GW:Â "I chose GW because of its academic reputation, networking opportunities to help land internships and jobs and its competitive volleyball team. Raise High!"
Amina Robinson | Defensive Specialist | 5-6 | Detroit, Mich.
Robinson joins the program from Detroit, Mich., where she played for Farmington Hills Mercy High School and Michigan Elite Volleyball Academy. Robinson was a three-year letter-winner at Farmington Hills and named to the 2020 All-League Team and an All-State honorable mention pick. In 2019, Robinson helped her team to a state championship and was named to the All-Tournament Team.Â
Robinson on choosing GW:Â "I chose GW because of their true value of determination, respect, integrity and diversity. I hold these values close to my heart, and I appreciate the university's commitment to each one of them. I also love the family dynamic of the players and coaches. D.C. is one of the best cities to experience in the country, and I cannot wait to be a part of the GW family. I am so blessed to have the opportunity to contribute to such an amazing program."
Olivia Harrison | Middle Blocker | 6-2 | Stanford, Calif.Â
Harrison joins the Buff & Blue from the West Coast, where she attended Palo Alto High School and played for Rage Westside Volleyball Club. In 2021, Harrison finished in the top five among all California prep players with a .386 hitting percentage and top 20 nationally for her position and class. In 2019, Harrison was named All-League MVP.
Harrison on choosing GW:Â "I am incredibly excited about the opportunity to be a part of the GW volleyball program and grow as a player under the leadership of an amazing coaching staff and group of teammates. I feel fortunate that I get to be in one of the nation's most dynamic and beautiful cities."
