Jamison Battle Named A-10 Player of the Week

A day after GW sophomore Jamison Battle went off for a career-high 29 points in a two-point win over Duquesne, the swingman was honored with the first Atlantic 10 Player of the Week award of his young career.
An All-Rookie performer a season ago, Battle has taken his game to new heights in his second year in Foggy Bottom. Not only did he establish a new career high Sunday, but his week also included a 24-point outing in a road win, one point shy of his previous career high. The Minnesota native shot .543 from the field in three games last week (2-1) and pulled down 5.0 rebounds per game.
"Our team took a big step this week and in large part that has to do with the maturity of Jamison Battle," said Head Coach Jamion Chistian. "He is a guy who put a ton of work in this summer and pays the price each day to improve. He is deeply loved by his teammates, and we all celebrate with him today because he would be the first to tell you that he gains great strength from the team's support."
Last year's A-10 leader in 3-point field goals made, this year the soph has demonstrated an all-around game. He's one of just three student-athletes in the conference averaging at least 17.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, while ranking third in the A-10 in 3s. Last week he averaged 3.0 triples per contest.
Battle was also named Colonial of the Week for his superlative performance last week, sharing the honor with teammate James Bishop.
Bishop was similarly outstanding for the Buff and Blue last week to earn a place on the A-10 Honor Roll. The Baltimore product averaged 20.0 points per game, and in the one game in which he didn't hit the 20-point mark, he hit the biggest bucket of his collegiate career. With his team trailing by one with less than 15 seconds to play on Sunday vs. Duquesne, Bishop nailed a go-ahead 3-pointer that accounted for the game-winning score. In his first season at GW, the LSU-transfer is ranked second in the conference in both points per game (19.8) and assists per game (5.8) while directing the team to a second-place tie in the A-10 standings at 2-1.
Battle and Bishop will be back in action Wednesday at home vs. UMass at 6 p.m. on NBC Sports Washington and ESPN+.
