Colonials coming off second visit to A-10 tournament in three years
WASHINGTON -  GW volleyball was picked to finish fourth in the Atlantic 10 in the league's preseason poll of head coaches announced on Thursday.Â
The Buff & Blue are coming off a 15-14 season (8-6 in A-10 play) finishing in a tie for fourth and advancing to the Atlantic 10 tournament for the second time in head coach Sarah Bernson's three years in charge of the program.
This season, the Atlantic 10 will be split into two geographic pods, with the top team from each pod along with the next two best teams overall (regardless of pod) selected and seeded for the four-team championship. The top overall seed will host the Atlantic 10 Championship on April 2-3.
GW is the highest projected team in its pod, which will include Fordham, George Mason, La Salle and Rhode Island. The teams are scheduled to compete in 10 conference matches during the regular season, which begins next weekend.
Dayton received eight first-place votes and is projected to finish atop the league, followed by VCU, which received two first-place votes. Saint Louis was picked third, followed by GW, Duquesne, Davidson, Rhode Island, La Salle, Fordham and George Mason.
GW returns nine student-athletes, including a pair of starters in junior libero Bella Bowman and senior defensive specialist Sydney Welch, from last year's team. The Buff & Blue welcome in three first-years and two transfers to the team to complete the roster.
GW's full schedule is expected to be released soon.
