Former All-American joins staff
WASHINGTON -Â GW women's rowing head coach Marci Robles announced the addition of Sarah Johanek to the team's coaching staff as a graduate assistant on Wednesday.
"We're thrilled to have Sarah joining our staff," Robles said. "The breadth of her experience as a student-athlete in one of the country's top collegiate programs as well as her experience as a two-time National Team athlete and World Champion will add a perspective that our team will really benefit from. As a coach, it's also pretty special to be able to work with one of your own former student-athletes. We're so happy to have her here!"
Johanek rowed for Rutgers for four years and stroked the Varsity 8+ to the program's first NCAA appearance in 18 years, ultimately finishing 10th in the nation in 2019. She was a three-time First Team All-Big Ten selection for the Scarlet Knights and earned First Team All-America honors in 2019.
Johanek also was a member of the U-23 National Rowing Team in 2018 and 2019, capturing gold as bow seat of the 4+ at the 2018 World Championships. A year later, she ranked as the top port on the U-23 National Team and placed fourth in the 2- at Worlds.
Most recently, Johanek served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Guatemala, implementing health initiatives within school systems. She will pursue her MPH in Global Health Program Design, Monitoring and Evaluation at GW.
