Rising senior is a Project Engineering Intern in the field of aerospace
You might say Abby Carlin's summer internship is out of this world.
Â
Carlin, a GW lacrosse rising senior, is gaining hands-on experience in the field of aerospace as a Project Engineering Intern at Danbury Mission Technologies in Danbury, Conn. The Systems Engineering major has learned quite a bit over the past two months about the daily challenges and opportunities presented in such a cutting-edge industry.
Â
GWsports.com caught up with Carlin to find out more about her internship.
Â
What was the process for landing this internship? Were there any changes necessary to your plans because of the COVID-19 pandemic?
Â
I applied and was accepted in early February, so COVID did not have an effect on the hiring process. I am very grateful for the opportunity to be working in-person. The office takes many precautions to keep us all safe.
Â
What is a typical day like in this internship?
Â
I work as a Project Engineering Intern, so a lot of my work involves managing teams and specific parts of engineering projects. Unfortunately, I cannot say much more about the projects. It is confidential information!
Â
What have been the highlights of your internship so far?
Â
I learn something new every day and work alongside great people! I have been given important tasks for real projects and am getting an amazing hands-on experience.
Â
How does this fit into your career plans? What have you learned this summer that will help you going forward?
Â
I am very interested in the field of aerospace and am learning a ton about it this summer. One main takeaway that will help me in the future is that it is okay to ask questions or ask for help!
