Former USF setter joins GW with two years of eligibility remaining
WASHINGTON - GW volleyball head coach Sarah Bernson announced the addition of Lauren LaBeck to the program on Wednesday. LaBeck is a rising junior with two years of eligibility remaining beginning this fall.
"In looking at the forming of this year's roster, Lauren is a key addition with her collegiate playing experience, hungry nature and commitment to a culture of competitiveness," Bernson said. "Lauren, along with graduate transfer Ashley Waggle, will provide game maturity to a solid group of returners this year.
"As a setter, she has a strong presence, thrives on communication and is inclusive to all her attackers. We look forward to her joining our setter corps with Heather Merryman and being a source of offense for our exciting attackers."
LaBeck played for two seasons at South Florida, becoming the Bulls' primary setter for the final seven matches of her debut campaign before leading the team with 767 assists in 2019. Overall, she averaged more than 7.0 assists per set in 175 career sets for USF.
"I'm excited and honored to be a part of the GW volleyball program," LaBeck said. "GW is a place where I have the opportunity to continue playing high-level volleyball, earn a first-class education and be supported by my coaches and teammates."
In addition to her setting duties, LaBeck totaled 298 digs, 63 kills, 37 service aces and 32 blocks in her two years with USF. A native of Chicago, LaBeck enjoyed a standout prep career at Grayslake Central High School, where she holds the school's career and single-season assist marks.
LaBeck is the fourth newcomer for the Colonials in 2020, joining a three-member recruiting class announced in November that includes Waggle and first-years Elizabeth Drelling and Liv Womble. The full 2020 roster is now available.
