Weber's Egg-cellence Brightens Easter at Home

Softball senior continues to make a difference amid COVID-19 pandemic
When the Weber family set out to celebrate the Easter holiday around their hometown of New Egypt, N.J., last Saturday, there was no debating who would don the bunny suit.
Faith Weber gladly spent her afternoon hopping, dancing and waving to children forced by the COVID-19 pandemic to spend the holiday at home while her sisters Samantha, Sarah and Michaela tossed candy-filled eggs into the yard from a safe social distance.
"It was really cool to be able to spread some Easter joy, even if it was only for a couple of hours," said Weber, a GW softball senior. "It may not seem like much, but the kids were all excited about it and that made it really fun."
Weber didn't anticipate spending the Easter holiday at home. The two-way standout was well on her way to a career-best season with the Colonials, claiming both A-10 Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week awards before the spring was cut short due to the global pandemic.
Instead, Weber made the most of the family time. Her mother Karyn is active in the local PTO and often organizes an Easter egg hunt for area children, and this time around, she had a creative idea for her husband Joe and three daughters to keep that spirit alive amid social distancing.
"We made sure not to get too close, but I think all of us were pretty excited to get out of the house and travel around a little bit and do something fun," Weber said.
Before heading home, Weber and teammate Mia Parker were logging regular shifts at Miriam's Kitchen helping to feed the homeless in D.C. The pair had planned to reach their goal of 100 hours of community service apiece for the school year during spring break.
With that plan interrupted, Weber has been volunteering at her local grocery store, donning a mask and helping to fill orders for curbside pickup. She expects to reach the 100-hour milestone this week, another testament to her continued push for excellence on and off the field.
"Faith is the ultimate team player," GW head coach Shane Winkler said. "She stepped up a ton on the field this year from big wins in the circle to walk-off grand slams, but she makes an even bigger impact as a teammate. She's one of the most caring individuals you'll ever meet and brings joy to everyone she comes in contact with."
