Colonials continue homestand with 3 p.m. first pitch
WASHINGTON - GW baseball is back in action on Tuesday, welcoming Towson to The Tuck for a 3 p.m. first pitch. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and admission is free for all fans.
OVER THE WEEKEND: GW yielded just three earned runs in three games, but ultimately fell in two out of three to Monmouth. Redshirt sophomore Harrison Cohen pitched a gem on Friday with eight scoreless innings en route to a 2-0 shutout victory. Junior Justin Solt followed suit on Saturday with a complete-game effort but fell victim to three unearned runs in a 3-1 setback. Monmouth then won the rubber game, 4-2, on Sunday.
MOUND MATTERS: Led by Cohen, the A-10 Pitcher of the Week, GW's starting rotation combined to throw 22.1 IP over the weekend, allowing five runs (two earned) for a 0.81 ERA. Solt's complete game was the first for the Colonials since Nate Woods in the 2018 A-10 Tournament. As a result, GW's team ERA dropped to 3.27, good for second in the A-10 and 65th nationally. Overall, the Buff & Blue have held their opponents to four runs or fewer in 11 of 14 games.
NUMBER NINE: Sophomore Noah Levin extended his hitting streak to a team-best nine games with three multi-hit efforts in four games last week. In the stretch, Levin has five multi-hit games and has driven in seven to bring his team-leading total to 12 RBI in 14 games. For the year, Levin is fourth in the A-10 in average (.423) and OBP (.524) while racking up 22 hits, good for third in the circuit.
ABOUT THE TIGERS: Towson enters Tuesday's affair with a 6-8 record following a 3-1 weekend against Lafayette that concluded with a doubleheader sweep on Sunday. The Tigers are led offensively by Matt Arceo, who is hitting .375 in 11 appearances this year. Brad Powers tops Towson with four extra-base hits and 15 driven in. Overall, the Tigers are ninth in the CAA in average (.225) and fourth in ERA (4.46).
GW holds a commanding 41-9-2 record in the all-time series and has won four straight, including a sweep of the home-and-home set a year ago.
