Redshirt sophomore threw eight scoreless innings on Friday
WASHINGTON -Â GW baseball's Harrison Cohen was named the Atlantic 10's Pitcher of the Week on Monday following the best start of his burgeoning career. It's the first weekly accolade for Cohen, and the first for a Colonial hurler since Will Kobos on May 21, 2018.
Cohen led GW to a series-opening victory on Friday against Monmouth, tossing a career-high eight scoreless innings. The redshirt sophomore surpassed his previous high by 1.2 innings, pitching into and through the eighth for the first time in his career.Â
Cohen struck out eight Hawks in the shutdown performance, one shy of a career-best. He also did not issue a walk for the third time in four starts and yielded a season-low four hits.Â
For the year, Cohen is 2-1 with a 2.10 ERA in 25.2 IP while serving as GW's Friday ace. He holds an astounding 24-to-3 strikeout-to-walk ratio that leads the A-10, and ranks 52nd nationally, and also is among the league leaders in innings pitched (second), strikeouts (t-7th) and ERA (10th).
