
Gymnastics Shines on Senior Day

Colonials top the field with 195.825
WASHINGTON – In its final day of competition in the Charles E. Smith Center, the George Washington gymnastics team capped off its 2020 home slate by topping the field with a team score of 195.825 in its Senior Day Meet on Sunday afternoon.
The Colonials earned their 195.825, their second-highest score of the season, behind scores of 48.675 on vault, a season-high 49.200 on bars, 48.775 on beam, and 49.175 on floor.
East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) rival Towson finished behind the Buff and Blue with a 195.625, while Maryland took third with a 195.300. William & Mary finished fourth with a 194.725 and Yale rounded out the field with a 193.300.
In the all-around, Deja Chambliss continued her momentum from Friday evening, matching her career-high score with a 39.400 to earn the outright crown. The sophomore started her day with a 9.850 to finish third, before setting a new personal best on bars with a 9.825. Chambliss went on to match her career high on beam with a 9.825 before capping her afternoon on floor with a career-high 9.900.
ROTATION ONE
After opening the meet with a bye, the Colonials got their afternoon started on vault, finishing with a score of 48.675. Chambliss topped the team with a 9.850 to take third while senior co-captain Cydney Crasa scored a 9.775. First-year Katherine Shek earned a 9.725, Anna Warhol registered a 9.675, and Olivia Norman posted a 9.650 to wrap rotation one.
ROTATION TWO
GW moved to uneven bars for the second rotation, posting a season-high 49.200. The 49.200 matches the Colonials' all-time program high, set in 2014. Four Colonials hit career highs on bars. Warhol paced the squad with a personal-best 9.875, a .050 increase from her previous career high. The sophomore duo of Olivia Zona and Olivia Raymond followed closely behind with matching career-high scores of 9.850, while Chambliss hit her own personal-best with a 9.825. Katya Karpova rounded out the Buff and Blue's season-high performance on bars with a 9.800.
ROTATION THREE
The Colonials took to beam for rotation three, registering a score of 48.775. Hannah Cohen led the way with a 9.850, while Chambliss followed closely behind with a career-high matching 9.825. Simone Banen added a 9.750, Katya Karpova earned a 9.700, and Zona finshed with a 9.650 to contribute to GW's total.
ROTATION FOUR
GW capped its afternoon on floor, finishing with a 49.175. Chambliss completed her day with a career-high 9.900 to finish at the top spot on the podium. Crasa and Raymond also performed beautiful floor routines, posting identical scores of 9.850 to share second. For Raymond, the 9.850 also matched her career high. Warhol added a 9.800 and Zona posted a 9.775 to wrap up the Colonials' afternoon.
SENIOR SALUTE: GW celebrated its senior class of Cydney Crasa and Nicole Rogalski during Sunday's meet. The seniors have been instrumental to the GW gymnastics program's return to NCAA Regionals in each of the past three seasons and the 2017 EAGL Championship.


ROAD AHEAD: Following their pair of meets this weekend, GW will hit the road to College Park, Md. to face Maryland and a trio of EAGL opponents on Sunday, March 15. The Colonials will have a chance to go up against the Terps and league rivals North Carolina, NC State, and New Hampshire to conclude their regular season. March-outs are set for 7 p.m.
