Solt Authors Complete Game in Setback to Monmouth

ARLINGTON, Va. - Junior starter Justin Solt held Monmouth without an earned run in a complete game effort, but a pair of errors proved costly as the Hawks edged GW, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at The Tuck.
Solt became the first Colonial to pitch all nine innings since Nate Woods in the 2018 A-10 Tournament. The JUCO transfer needed just 102 pitches to accomplish the feat, settling in wonderfully after some early traffic.
Monmouth scored all of its runs after a one-out fielding error in the third, stringing together two RBI singles around an RBI groundout to plate three unearned tallies.
From there, though, Solt retired six in a row and 20 of the next 22 hitters he faced, holding the Hawks to just three hits after the third, two of which came with two down in the ninth.
In total, the right-hander scattered nine hits and was pitch efficient thanks to just one walk and two strikeouts.
Offensively, the Colonials were held in check, scratching across their run via an RBI single from sophomore Noah Levin in the last of the fourth. GW had plenty of chances to draw closer, but left 10 on base including the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth.
Levin's knock extended his hitting streak to eight in a row. Junior Tyler Hix and first-year Steve DiTomaso contributed a pair of hits each.
The two teams will square off in the rubber game of the set on Sunday at noon.
