A Message from GW Volleyball Head Coach Sarah Bernson

There are a lot of emotions that are forefront during this unprecedented time. First and foremost is a sense of loss and empathy for our winter and spring sport peers for having their seasons cut short. We will never know the greatness that you all would have achieved. Our knowledge of you and the respect of your hard work would have resulted in so many successes, both big and small.
For GW Volleyball, we were in our spring transition phase and the program was rapidly forming into our 2020 competitive squad. We can see how well the returners work together and now have a vision for our new level of good. It is exciting and fun. This team is still together and progressing, just in a different way. The commitment of these student-athletes to one another and our program is palpable. We will continue to build our growth trajectory to be ready for when we next step into the Charles E. Smith Center.
Rightly so, the health and care of our students is our top priority. I support the department and GW's measures to keep safety paramount. Thank you to President LeBlanc and Athletics Director Tanya Vogel for making these hard decisions. In sports, we know that we will face challenges; now more than ever our mindset and determination will improve our path through this physically separating challenge. Thank you to the student-athletes for choosing to put on the GW uniform and contributing to our "We." Thank you to the alumni and friends of our program for continuing to support all of us. Most of all, thank you to the parents and families of our students that are providing a home classroom environment, care and encouragement. Our GW Volleyball family will continue to lean forward and move purposefully to #RaiseHigher.
