3/3/2020 10:30:00 AM | Men's Basketball
TIPPING OFF: The GW men's basketball team will conclude its home schedule on Wednesday evening, hosting Fordham at the Smith Center on Senior Night. Tip-off between the Colonials and Rams is set for 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and can be heard on the TuneIn radio app.
SENIOR NIGHT HONORS: Before the start of the contest, GW Athletics will honor three student managers and its five graduating members of the Class of 2020 — Adam Mitola, Armel Potter, Luke Sasser, Arnaldo Toro and Justin Williams. The ceremony will begin at 6:44 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: Junior Maceo Jack led the Colonials with 12 points and was one of three players in double figures, but GW fell to VCU, 75-51, on Saturday. First-year Jamison Battle and Toro each finished with 10 points apiece. GW scored 24 of its 51 points from the inside the paint. The Colonials trailed 32-28 at the half before VCU raced out in the second half on a 14-3 run and outscored GW 43-23 in the final 20 minutes.
SERIES HISTORY: GW leads the all-time season series with Fordham, 28-8, and has won nine of the last 11 games dating back to the 2012-13 season. Fordham took the first meeting this year, 59-54, on Jan. 22 at Rose Hill Gym. GW is looking for a season split for the second straight season on Wednesday. Last year, the home team took both meetings.
SCOUTING FORDHAM: The Rams are riding a 10-game losing streak heading into Wednesday's contest in Foggy Bottom. Chuba Ohams leads the Rams in both points (11.0) and rebounds (8.2). In just 13 games this season, Ohams has recorded four double-doubles. Jalen Cobb and Antwon Portley are tied for second on the team in scoring at 10.5 ppg.
POTTER'S FREE RANKINGS: Potter ranks third in the A-10 in free throw percentage (.757), made free throws (112), and free throw attempts (148) this season. All three statistics are career highs for the redshirt senior from Long Island. In conference matchups, Potter is second in free throw attempts (92) and third in made free throws (66). He established his career-best on two occasions this year when he knocked down 12 free chances vs. Milwaukee (11/24) and George Mason (1/15).
THE VALUE OF A DIME: Potter also finds his name among the top distributors in the Atlantic 10, where he ranks second in assists per game (5.9) and fourth in total assists (147). In A-10 games, Potter is first in assists per game (6.5) and fourth in total assists (84). Potter set a new career-best with 12 assists twice this season in home games vs. Longwood (12/28) and Richmond (2/26).
HITTING THE MARK: Entering the final two games of the regular season, Battle has made a three-pointer in every game of his career to date (29). He has knocked down more than one 3-pointer in 24 games with his season-best of six made triples on two occasions — at South Carolina (12/1) and vs. Duquesne (1/11). The rookie from Minnesota is five 3-pointers away from tying GW Hall of Famer Shawnta Rogers' single-season record of 86 made threes during the 1998-99 season.
