Former UMBC assistant and interim head coach spent three years with Retrievers
WASHINGTON - GW volleyball has named Christian Kiselica its new assistant coach, head coach Sarah Bernson announced on Monday.
"As we continue the work of growing and developing the GW volleyball program, the people that are part of the team's day-to-day culture and training are key to our continued success," Bernson said. "This program is poised to perform at a high level this year and Christian can help actualize that plan.
"His analytical thinking, relationship mindset and statistic evaluation will provide benefits to our staff and athletes right away. I look forward to having Christian alongside Brianna Barry and myself as we push to raise higher."
Kiselica spent the last three seasons at UMBC, beginning as the team's setters and offensive coach before becoming interim head coach for four months during and after the 2017 campaign.
"I am extremely grateful and honored to join the coaching staff at GW," Kiselica said. "I cannot wait to build on the success that Sarah has already established and I am eager to make her vision for the program come to reality.
"From the moment I stepped on campus, I felt at home. It is so easy to see why everyone loves being a Colonial. I want to thank Sarah, Bri and the administration for this opportunity. It is a true privilege to join this family."
Kiselica has served as UMBC's libero and defensive coach for the past two seasons. Under his leadership, the Retrievers ranked second in the America East in team digs, blocks and opposing hitting percentage in 2019. He also played a part in recruiting five freshmen who were in the starting lineup last fall.
Kiselica helped guide four Retrievers to All-Conference honors in his three years, including Carmen Freeman, who was named the 2017 America East Rookie of the Year. Additionally, four student-athletes were named to the America East All-Rookie team during his tenure.
A 2017 graduate of Temple, Kiselica was a member of the men's club volleyball team for four years as an outside hitter and libero. He also served as the Owls' Director of Operations for three seasons. Prior to Temple, he was a volunteer assistant at Penn for one year and the head coach at Delaware United Volleyball Club among other various club and high school positions.
