Chambliss topped AA podium in back-to-back meets with career-high 39.400
WASHINGTON – George Washington gymnastics sophomore Deja Chambliss has been named East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Gymnast of the Week after shining in all-around competition with back-to-back all-around titles in gymnastics' pair of meets of the weekend. The honor marks the first of her career.
Chambliss highlighted the squad's night at Towson, either matching or setting new career highs on all four events to finish the day at the top of the all-around podium with a career-high 39.400. The Chesterfield, Va., native earned her first career 9.900 on vault, matched her personal best on bars with a 9.800, matched her career high on beam with a 9.825, and matched her personal best on floor with a 9.875. Chambliss' 39.400 is also the second highest all-around score awarded to a gymnast in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) this season.
The sophomore continued her momentum from Friday during the Colonials' Senior Day meet on Sunday afternoon, matching her personal-best all-around score with a 39.400 to earn the outright crown. The sophomore started her day with a 9.850 on vault to finish third, before setting a new personal best on bars with a 9.825. Chambliss went on to match her career high on beam with a 9.825 before capping her afternoon on floor with a career-high 9.900.
Chambliss has earned a spot on the all-around podium every meet since her debut at Denver (Feb. 16) and has scored above the 39.000 threshold in all five meets.
