Women’s Tennis Set for Pair of Opponents on the Road

Colonials to face ECU on Saturday, UNCW on Sunday
SERVING FIRST: The George Washington women's tennis team is set to hit the road this weekend, traveling south to North Carolina to face ECU on Saturday at 10 a.m., followed by a match against UNCW on Sunday at 10 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Colonials fell in a pair of matches over the weekend and were edged by Navy, 4-3, on Saturday before falling to James Madison, 4-0, on Sunday. Against the Midshipmen, the Colonials secured the doubles point with the duos of Katarina Marinkovikj and Melis Bayraktaroglu and Jiaqing Mo and Alexandra Vesikallio besting their opponents at No. 1 and 3, respectively. In singles play, Marinkovikj notched a victory at the top spot, while Luciana Kunkel won in straight sets at No. 4.
ABOUT ECU: The Pirates sit 3-5 on the season and are coming off a 4-2 loss at William & Mary on Saturday. ECU secured the top two singles victories, with Lisa Hofauer and Sibel Tanik topping their opponents at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively.
ABOUT UNCW: The Seahawks (2-5) will look to bounce back from a four-match losing skid when they welcome the Colonials to Wilmington on Sunday. Celeste Matute and Sarah Merril pace the team with five victories apiece in dual match play.
ROAD AHEAD: GW will make its return to the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center (SETLC) on Thursday, March 5 to host Delaware at 1 p.m. The Colonials will then face local foe Howard on Thursday, March 12 at the SETLC before making the short trip up to College Park, Md., on Saturday, March 14 to go head-to-head with Maryland at noon.
