Colonials drop opener at Seahawk Softball Classic
WILMINGTON, N.C. - GW softball opened its stay at the Seahawk Softball Classic on Friday afternoon with a 9-1 loss to Eastern Kentucky.
In their first of four games this weekend at UNCW's Boseman Field, the Colonials fell behind 7-1 through three innings and couldn't catch the Colonels, who have made back-to-back postseason appearances in the NISC.
GW scored its run in the bottom of the first on Sidney Bloomfield's RBI double to score Jenna Cone. Bloomfield and Cone combined for four of the Buff and Blue's five hits vs. EKU with two apiece.
Mia Parker went the distance for GW in the circle, settling in after a difficult start. The sophomore from California set a career high with four strikeouts in her second collegiate start.
ON DECK: GW has a doubleheader on tap Saturday vs. host UNCW (12:30 p.m.) and EKU (3 p.m.). The Colonials will wrap the weekend Sunday with a 9:30 a.m. start vs. Brown.
