Mia Parker tossed complete game for Colonials
GREENVILLE, N.C. - Mia Parker tossed a complete game without allowing an earned run in her first career start Sunday, but GW softball came up short vs. host East Carolina, 2-0, in its finale at the Pirate Clash.
Parker earned the start after tossing three effective innings of relief on Saturday vs. ECU. On Sunday, the sophomore from California settled in after allowing single unearned runs in each of the first two innings to hold the Pirates scoreless over her final four frames. She navigated seven hits and two walks by stranding 10 runners on base.
Parker took the tough-luck loss because GW's offense was stymied by ECU first-year Logyn Estes, who yielded just three hits in the shutout victory. The Colonials advanced a runner to third in both the second and fifth innings but could not break through.
Parker kept the Buff and Blue within striking distance by working out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the bottom of the sixth. Faith Weber led off the top of the seventh with a single, but a double play and a groundout followed to end the game.
Parker also made an impact at the plate, smacking her first career triple with two outs in the second. Weber and Sidney Bloomfield posted the Colonials' other two hits.
ON DECK:Â GW returns to North Carolina next weekend for UNCW's Seahawk Softball Classic. Beginning Friday, the Colonials play a total of four games vs. Eastern Kentucky, Brown and the host Seahawks.
