WASHINGTON - GW women's basketball head coach Jennifer Rizzotti announced on Monday that redshirt juniors Olivia Gumbs and Sarah Overcash have opted not to return for their respective fifth years of eligibility, marking the end of their GW basketball careers after the current season.
"I feel so fortunate that Liv and Sarah chose to finish their undergraduate careers at GW," Rizzotti said. "They have been a big part of how we've built our foundation since I've arrived and have consistently represented what I believe in as the leaders of our program.
"They achieve at a high level in the classroom, they've both been part of GW LEAPP for student-athletes and their work ethic on the court sets an example for every player that comes into the program. They exemplify what it means to compete and commit to our program's success."
Overcash (left) and Gumbs (right) have served as valuable team leaders in their three years at GW.
Gumbs has appeared in 31 games for the Colonials in two seasons since transferring from Lafayette. She has averaged 2.6 ppg and 2.0 rpg on the court and will graduate this spring with a degree in International Affairs.
Overcash started 12 games for the Colonials in 2018-19 and has appeared in 42 games for the Buff & Blue overall, averaging 1.6 ppg and 2.8 rpg after beginning her college career at Illinois. She will graduate this spring with a degree in Psychology.
"I truly believe GW offers our players so many opportunities to develop in the final stages of their formative years," Rizzotti said. "I look forward to celebrating their careers because I know they've enriched the lives of everyone in the program, and the entire GW athletics family."
Both student-athletes, as well as graduate students Alexandra Maund and Ariel Stephenson, will be honored at GW's Senior Day prior to the regular season finale on Saturday, Feb. 29 at 2 p.m. against Richmond.
