Lacrosse honored for efforts organizing Colonial Harvest
GW lacrosse has been named GWsports.com's Colonials of the Week in recognition of the program's efforts organizing the annual Colonial Harvest to help feed D.C. area families in need.
This year, Colonial Harvest required creativity amid the COVID-19 global pandemic. Utilizing a safe, contactless drop-off in Foggy Bottom while also accepting monetary donations online, the collection yielded 40 baskets of food, plus an additional total of nearly $4,000.
Lacrosse student-athletes received baskets of groceries put together by teams and individuals across GW Athletics last Friday before making a delivery to Saint Rita Catholic Church in Alexandria, Va., over the weekend that will help provide Thanksgiving meals to brighten the holiday for dozens of families. The remaining cash donations collected will go to D.C.-based Bread for the City to support its mission providing comprehensive services to low-income residents across the city.
"We're so grateful for everyone who came together to make Colonial Harvest a success once again," GW lacrosse head coach Jennifer Ulehla said. "Our team continues to inspire me with their dedication to this project, and the support of the entire GW Athletics community, from student-athletes to coaches to staff, means so much. Colonial Harvest looked a little bit different this year, but the spirit was stronger than ever to navigate the challenges and make sure that we could still help local families in need."
