Gymnastics Hits Season High at Pink Meet

Colonials secure their first score above a 195.000 in January since 2018

WASHINGTON – Coming back from a successful swing out West, the George Washington gymnasts team returned home to the Charles E. Smith Center on Friday evening and put up its best performance of the season, earning a season-high 195.375 to finish second at its annual Pink Meet.

The Colonials totaled their 195.375 behind team scores of 48.650 on vault, a season-high 49.000 on bars, a 48.750 on beam, and a season-high 48.975 on floor. The 195.375 also marks the first time the squad has hit the 195.000 threshold in January since 2018.

East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) foe Pittsburgh finished first with a season-best 195.700, while No. 24 West Virginia took third with 194.850 and William & Mary finished fourth with 191.425.

ROTATION ONE
The Colonials got their night started off on vault, finishing with a score of 48.650. For the second straight meet, senior co-captain Cydney Crasa led the way, earning a 9.800 along with sophomore Deja Chambliss. The pair finished the night on the podium in a tie for third. Anna Warhol also put together a strong performance on vault with a season-high 9.750, while Chloe Vitoff added a 9.675. Hannah Munnelly notched a 9.625 to wrap up rotation one.

ROTATION TWO
GW moved on to bars for the second rotation, turning up the heat with a season-high 49.000. Simone Banen paced the squad with a career-high 9.875 to claim second, while Munnelly followed closely behind with a personal best 9.850 of her own, earning a spot on the podium for the first time in her collegiate career at third. Chambliss and Warhol also hit season-highs with matching 9.800s, while Olivia Raymond posted a 9.675 to contribute to the Colonials' season-high performance.

ROTATION THREE
The Buff and Blue took to beam for the third rotation, scoring a 48.750. After sitting out the start of the 2020 season due to injury, junior Hannah Cohen returned to the lineup in dominant fashion, earning a career-high 9.900 to finish second. Crasa and Oliva Zona posted identical 9.775s while Raymond and Banen finished with matching 9.650s to conclude the third rotation.

The Colonials capped their night off on floor, improving their score for the second-straight week with a season-high 48.975. Five of the six gymnasts that competed either matched or set new season-highs. Crasa paced the squad with a career-high matching 9.875 to share the top spot on the podium. Karpova followed closely behind with a season-high 9.800 of her own, while Rachel Kaplan matched her personal best this season with a 9.775. Banen also earned a 9.775 to set a new season-high and Raymond finished with a season best 9.750 to round out the night.

The Colonials will have a quick turnaround, traveling to Kent, Ohio to go head-to-head with Kent State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
