
Gymnastics Hosts Pink Meet on Friday

Colonials set for pair of meets this weekend
LEADING OFF: The George Washington gymnastics team is set to make its return to the Charles E. Smith Center on Friday to host West Virginia, William & Mary and Pittsburgh for its annual Pink Meet at 7 p.m. The Colonials will then have a quick turnaround, traveling to Kent, Ohio to go head-to-head with Kent State on Sunday at 1 p.m.

SIP & FLIP: Prior to march-outs on Friday, GW will host "Sip & Flip," a wine tasting with light hors d'oeuvres inside the Tin Tabernacle Club. The cost is $15 and includes the single-meet ticket along with an open bar with a selection of wines from Francis Ford Coppola Winery for fans of age. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: In its first of two trips out West this season, the Colonials shone under the bright lights of UC Davis' ARC Pavilion, topping the field with a season-high score of 194.350. GW finished steadily ahead of the host Aggies, who came in second with a 192.975, while Sacramento State took third (192.675) and Alaska finished fourth (189.600).

CYD THE KID: Senior co-captain Cydney Crasa had herself a night at UC Davis, topping the team on all three events in which she competed. Starting her night off on beam, the Stony Brook, New York, native matched her career high with a 9.800 to tie for fourth. Moving on to floor, Crasa matched her season-best score of 9.825 to finish in a tie for second before earning the top spot on the vault podium with a 9.825. After adding beam to her repertoire for the first time this season, Crasa ranks fourth in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) with her 9.783 average.

BOUNCING BACK: The Colonials hit their stride on floor in California, posting a season-high 48.725. In addition to Crasa, four other gymnasts hit season highs. Rachel Kaplan finished with a season-high 9.775 of her own to place fourth, while Anna Warhol earned a 9.750 in her floor debut. Katya Karpova added a 9.725, and Olivia Raymond finished with a season-high 9.650 to contribute to the Colonials' season-best performance on floor.

A LOOK AT THE LEAGUE: With their 194.350 at UC Davis, the Colonials now sit fourth in the EAGL along with Towson. NC State ranks first with a 194.625 avg., while New Hampshire follows closely behind in second with a 194.431. North Carolina sits third (194.342), while Pittsburgh rounds out the league in sixth (193.158). Individually, Crasa ranks third on vault (9.825 avg.), in addition to ranking fourth on beam. The sophomore duo of Deja Chambliss and Simone Banen also boast top-five rankings, with Chambliss ranking fourth on vault (9.863 avg.) and Banen ranking fourth on bars (9.783 avg.). Â

ROAD AHEAD: Following their pair of meets this weekend, the Buff and Blue will be back out on the road on Saturday, Feb. 8 to face EAGL foe New Hampshire in quad-meet action with West Virginia and Brown. March-outs are set for 7 p.m.
