Women’s Tennis Opens Home Slate with Pair of Victories

Colonials top Morgan State (5-2); down Coppin State (4-1)
WASHINGTON – The George Washington women's tennis team opened its home slate at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center (SETLC) in fine fashion on Tuesday, winning back-to-back matches against Morgan State and Coppin State.
The Colonials got their day started on a high note with a 5-2 victory over the Bears. In doubles play, the pair of Katarina Marinkovikj and Luciana Kunkel topped their opponents at the top spot, while Jiaqing Mo and Alexandra Vesikallio notched a victory at No. 2 to help GW claim the early doubles point. In singles action, the team topped Morgan State in the top three matches and at No. 5 to cement its 5-2 victory.
The squad went on to face Coppin State just a few hours later, downing the Eagles, 4-1. The Colonials continued their momentum in doubles play by securing the early point. In singles action, Marinkovikj, Vesikallio and Lara McNaughten contributed to GW's 4-1 win.
UP NEXT: GW will continue its homestand at the SETLC on Saturday when it faces Duquesne at 1 p.m.
