WASHINGTON – The GW golf team unveiled its five-tournament 2020 spring schedule on Thursday, highlighted by the Presidents Match Play Championship to open the slate in February.
"I'm excited for our spring slate," said head coach Chuck Scheinost. "We start off as defending champions at the Presidents Match Play Championship (previously the A-10 Match Play) which is always exciting. "I feel this year's spring schedule is one that will push us to try and contend for titles while also challenging us against some of the top teams in the country."
The Presidents Match Play Championship takes place at The Club at Weston Hills, Players Course, in Miami from Feb. 17-18.
In their second event of the spring, the Colonials will make a return trip to the Bash at the Beach Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C. (March 9-10). Last season, GW finished third out of 13 teams with Class of 2019 graduate Logan Lowe winning his fourth straight invite in Myrtle Beach.
Two weeks later, GW tees off at the William & Mary Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate Invite (March 22-24). The Colonials have not competed at The Golden Horseshoe Golf Club since 2005.
The Buff and Blue will conclude March on 30th and 31st with a trip West to compete at the Seattle University Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay Golf Course, the home of the 2015 U.S. Open.
GW's final tune-up before the A-10 Championship will take place at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic in Houston, Texas (April 13-14).
In its new home for 2020, the Reunion Resort in Orlando, Fla., hosts the Atlantic 10 Championship from April 24-26. Senior Adrian Castagnola finished in second place at last year's A-10 Championship, one stroke behind teammate and champion Lowe.
"This is a site that could potentially produce some low scores," said Scheinost. "After last year's championship which saw us right in the mix during the final round, our guys will be primed for the opportunity to compete for the Atlantic 10 Championship."
