
Gymnastics Takes Second at Little Boston Invitational

Colonials to open home slate Jan. 19 with 13th annual Lindsey Ferris Invitational
BOSTON – Under the bright lights of Hynes Convention Center, the George Washington gymnastics team kicked off its 2020 season at the Little Boston Invitational on Saturday evening. Behind strong team performances on vault and beam, the Colonials finished the day second with a score of 193.775.
Maryland finished first with a score of 196.150, while GW (1-1) totaled its 193.775 behind team scores of 48.975 on vault, 47.900 on bars, 48.975 on beam and 47.925 on floor. West Chester took third with 193.250.
ROTATION ONE
The Colonials got their night started off on floor, finishing with a score of 47.925. Senior co-captain Cydney Crasa set the bar for the Buff and Blue with a team-high 9.800, while junior Katya Karpova secured a 9.775. Fellow junior Rachel Kaplan also came out big for the squad on floor with a solid 9.700. Sophomore Olivia Raymond posted a 9.500 and Simone Banen earned a 9.100 to round out GW's first rotation.
ROTATION TWO
GW then moved to vault, posting a team score of 48.975. Crasa continued her momentum from rotation one with a career-high matching 9.850. In her first appearance in the Buff and Blue since rupturing her Achilles after the first meet last season, sophomore Deja Chambliss proved she was up to the challenge with a personal-best 9.850. Crasa and Chambliss earned a spot on the podium at third. In her vault debut, junior Olivia Norman posted a 9.825, while Chloe Vitoff posted a 9.750. Hannah Munnelly, in her collegiate debut, scored a 9.700 to add to GW's score.
ROTATION THREE
The Buff and Blue took to bars for rotation three, finishing with a score of 47.900. The junior duo of Anna Warhol and Karpova earned identical 9.800s to pace the squad and tie for fourth on the night. For Karpova, the bars performance marked the first of her career. Banen also came in clutch for the Colonials with a 9.750, while Raymond posted a 9.675. Chambliss added an 8.875 to wrap up rotation three.

The Colonials capped their night on beam, posting a score of 48.975. Olivia Zona paced the Buff and Blue with a career-high matching 9.850, a score that earned her the top spot on the podium. Karpova came in second on the squad with a 9.825, while Raymond posted a 9.800. In her beam debut, Crasa added a 9.750, while Banen earned a 9.750 to finish the night.

GW will be back in action on Sunday, January 19 to open its home slate with the 13th annual Lindsey Ferris Invitational. The Colonials will host Cornell, Kent State, and Penn in quad meet action starting at 1 p.m.
