Baseball Adds Two to Coaching Staff

Dold, Smoot join Ritchie's staff for 2020 season
WASHINGTON -Â GW baseball head coach Gregg Ritchie announced the hirings of Tim Dold as Director of Baseball Operations and Ryan Smoot as Volunteer Assistant Coach on Friday, rounding out the team's staff for the 2020 campaign.
Dold comes to GW from Hofstra University. He earned his bachelor's degree in Finance from the school in 2018. At Hofstra, he served as a student manager for the women's basketball team from 2016-18 and joined the staff as a graduate assistant in 2019.
Dold also served as a student employee for the Hofstra athletic facilities department. A native of Annapolis, Md., Dold attended Broadneck High School where he was the team captain for the baseball team and earned All-County and All-District honors.
Smoot recently completed his playing career at VMI, graduating in May with a degree in Economics and Business. Across his four years with the Keydets, he played catcher, first base and designated hitter. He appeared in 52 games in 2019 for VMI, driving in 18 runs and scoring 38 times while walking more times (39) than striking out (32).
Smoot will be called upon to work with the Colonials' catchers, something he has experience in while working as a coach for the Dominican Baseball Camps in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic and also with the Jonathan Hadra Baseball Camps in Lexington, Va.
