WASHINGTON -- The George Washington University Department of Athletics and Recreation announced that Head Lacrosse Coach Tracy Coyne has resigned.
"We appreciate Tracy's years of service to our GW student-athletes and our community," said GW Director of Athletics and Recreation Tanya Vogel. "We are grateful to Coach Coyne for putting her whole heart into projects like the annual Colonial Harvest, which gathered food baskets for hundreds of families in the greater DC area during the Thanksgiving Holiday."
"My five years serving as head coach of the GW lacrosse program have been among the best years of my career, thanks in large part to the wonderful players, administrators, assistant coaches, alumnae and families that I've had the pleasure to coach and call friends. The Colonials lacrosse program has a very bright future and its people will always hold a special place in my heart," said Coyne.
Originally hired during the 2014-15 academic year, Coyne held a 27-56 record at GW (13-31 in the A-10). During her tenure at GW, two members of the 2018 team received postseason accolades as then freshman Jenna Oler was named to the Inside Lacrosse All-Rookie team (the first time a GW player was selected since 2004) and senior Jocelyn Donohue was chosen to play in the North-South Senior All-Star game (the first GW player selected since 2010). Off the field, Coyne's teams excelled in the classroom as they recorded a program-record 12th consecutive year as a member of the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll with 13 student-athletes being named to the Honor Roll over the past four seasons.
A national search for the program's next Head Coach will begin immediately.
