GW travels to UMBC Tuesday, hosts William & Mary Wednesday
WASHINGTON - GW baseball is set for a busy week with five games scheduled, including two mid-week contests. The Colonials will battle UMBC in the second game of a home-and-home on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Baltimore, Md., before returning home for a matinee with William & Mary on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
OVER THE WEEKEND: The Colonials captured their first A-10 series victory of the year with two wins at George Mason over the weekend. The Buff & Blue split a doubleheader on Saturday, winning the first game 16-7, before securing the series with an 8-5 win on Sunday afternoon. Senior Dom D'Alessandro had an impressive weekend, hitting .583 (7-for-12) with two homers, seven runs scored and six RBI.

RECORD PACE: GW still sits among the nation's elite offenses more than halfway into the season. At the current pace, the Colonials are on pace to break the school record in triples and walks and are en route to place either second or third in school annals in hits, RBIs, runs, doubles, total bases and extra-base hits.
Individually, junior Nate Fassnacht is seven doubles shy of setting a new school-best and is on pace to score the most runs in a single season in school history.
STEADY AS HE GOES: First-year Rich Pfluger will get the ball on Tuesday, looking to improve on his 3-0 record in his initial campaign in the Buff & Blue. Pfluger is scheduled to make his 10th appearance of the year having held opponents to two earned runs or fewer in eight of the previous nine outings. The lone outlier was the first matchup with UMBC. Pfluger tied his career high with 5.0 innings last week at Towson, yielding only an unearned run on three hits.
ABOUT THE RETRIEVERS: UMBC bested GW, 14-12, two weeks ago in a game that featured 35 total hits and six home runs, four from the Colonials. The Retrievers have won nine of their last 11 games, but dropped two of three at Maine over the weekend. GW owns a 34-20 edge in the all-time series and is looking to split the season series for the second straight year.
ABOUT THE TRIBE: William & Mary will take on Maryland on Tuesday before facing GW and is coming off three one-run losses over the weekend at Delaware. The 20-10 Tribe are buoyed by a pair of starters hitting over .300 in Hunter Smith (.325) and Zach Pearson (.315). The Colonials are 37-25 against W&M, winning last year's lone matchup, 9-5, in Williamsburg.
