Colonials earned a run-rule win in Sunday's series finale
The Colonials (30-11, 6-3 A-10) scored in every inning to drop the Billikens for the third time in two days on the Mount Vernon Campus. They outscored the visitors, 28-5, for the weekend in their first three-game conference sweep since March 2016.
In Sunday's finale, Sierra Lange equaled the program single-game record with four hits and also picked up her third win of the weekend with a complete-game pitching effort.
Lange had three singles and a double, plus three RBIs and a run scored, to pace the Buff and Blue's 14-hit attack. The sophomore from Texas is now hitting .441 (63-for-143) for the season and needs just three more hits to break the program's single-season record.
In the circle, she held down Saint Louis besides a pair of home runs, posting eight strikeouts over the five frames to improve to 18-5 on the season.
Lange had plenty of help from a lineup that hit .560 (14-for-25) for the day.
GW scored the first seven runs before Saint Louis got one back via a solo homer in the top of the fourth. The Colonials then exploded for a five-spot in the bottom of the inning with Lange's RBI single pushing the lead to 12-1.
Jessica Linquist provided a pair of extra-base hits with a first-inning double and a second-inning solo home run to extend her program-record hitting (28 games) and on-base (37) streaks. The long ball was her sixth of the season.
Alessandra Ponce stayed hot with two hits and a walk, including a two-run double in the third inning that made it 4-0. The sophomore from Nevada hit .750 (9-for-12) in five victories this week with four doubles, two homers and seven RBIs.
A day after becoming the program's all-time RBI leader, Jenna Cone walked twice and drove in two more. The junior from California has now driven in 54 runs on the spring.
Priscilla Martinez (2-for-4 with a double) also recorded a multi-hit effort, while Morgan Kummer, Mia Parker, Sidney Bloomfield helped out with run-scoring singles.
UP NEXT: GW travels to UMass for three games next weekend to continue A-10 play. The Colonials are back on the Vern on April 17 hosting George Mason for a midweek conference twin bill.
