Colonials fall to UMass, 21-9, in season finale
AMHERST, Mass. – In its final game of the season, the George Washington lacrosse team was within three of Massachusetts after the first half, but the Colonials could not contain the Atlantic 10 Regular Season Champion Minutewomen in the game's second stanza, falling 21-9.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UMass was the first to strike, finding the back of the net just 26 seconds in the game. The Colonials were quick to respond, with Katie Quinn putting the Colonials on the board off an assist from Morgan McDonnell, but the Minutewomen responded less than a minute later to regain the one-goal edge. The Buff and Blue fired back with three straight tallies, all from first-year Tori Hampton, to own the 4-2 advantage before UMass scored a trio of their own to go back on top. GW pushed back with two more goals from Quinn, but the Minutewomen closed the half with four straight strikes to own the 9-6 lead going into the break.
The Minutewomen went on to score 12 goals in the game's second stanza, while holding the Colonials to three, to complete their perfect A-10 record.
