Colonials racked up a season-high 18 hits in victory
Elena Shelepak went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs to lead the Colonials, who bounced back from a pair of losses Saturday with the emphatic victory in the Atlantic 10 series finale.
Eleven different players notched hits and nine scored runs for the Buff and Blue (31-13, 7-5 A-10) in an offensive surge stoked by 12 singles, five doubles and Shelepak's long ball.
GW got off to a strong start, scoring three runs on four hits in the top of the first. Priscilla Martinez, Shelepak and Morgan Kummer all knocked in runs with two-out hits.
The lead reached 4-0 in the second thanks to back-to-back two-out doubles from Jenna Cone and Sierra Lange.
In the fourth, Martinez plated two more two-out runs, bringing home Lange and Sidney Bloomfield.
Up 6-2, GW put the game out of reach with a six-run seventh. Shelepak started the run with a solo homer to left center, her third of the season. The Colonials notched six more hits in the frame, including an RBI single from Shelepak that made it 12-2.
Lange finished 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles, three RBIs, three runs scored and two stolen bases. With her first hit Sunday, the sophomore from Texas became the program's single-season hit leader, breaking a mark that had been shared by GW Athletic Hall of Famer Elana Meyers Taylor (2006) and Marta Fuentes (2018). She's 67-for-155 (.432) on the spring.
Lange was the beneficiary of all that offense, improving to 19-9 on the season. She allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts in her 20th complete game.
Shelepak's four hits were a career high and equaled the program record. Every Colonial starter tallied at least one hit with Martinez, Cone and Ponce also recording multi-hit efforts.
A day after having her program-record 28-game hitting streak snapped, Linquist began a new one, going 1-for-3 with a pair of walks and a run scored at the top of the lineup.
UP NEXT:Â GW returns to the Mount Vernon Campus on Wednesday to host George Mason for an A-10 doubleheader. They're back on the road again next weekend for a three-game conference series at St. Bonaventure.
