Colonials cruised to victory in game two
WASHINGTON - George Washington softball rolled past Morgan State, 8-1, on Wednesday afternoon in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader on the Mount Vernon Campus.
First-year Morgan Kummer recorded her first career three-hit effort, including a pair of doubles, with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Jessica Linquist and Hannah Eslick also knocked in two runs apiece in the victory.
Earlier in the day, the Colonials were edged by the Bears, 5-4, in the opener. They rallied in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out, two-run double from Jenna Cone but couldn't complete the comeback.
GW 8, Morgan State 1:Â The Colonials put together an impressive bounce-back effort to cruise to victory in game two.
The offense piled up eight runs on 12 hits, while pitchers Faith Weber, Kaitlin Buff and Jayme Cone combined to limit the Bears to a run on five hits.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the third, GW erupted for eight runs over their final four at-bats.
The Colonials tied it in the bottom of the inning when Priscilla Martinez followed Sierra Lange's double with a sacrifice fly to score Jenna Cone.
They went ahead an inning later on Linquist's two-run double into the right center field gap and added on with Eslick's RBI single in the fifth.
The Buff and Blue pulled away with a four-run sixth, highlighted by Kummer's two-out double high off the left field fence. Eslick kept the rally alive with a single to score Kummer, and Riley Tejcek followed with another hit to make it 8-1.
