Colonials finish second against Maryland and trio of EAGL squads

TOWSON, Md. – The George Washington gymnastics team posted a season-high 196.025 to finish second against Maryland and a trio of East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) opponents to wrap up its regular season in fine fashion on Sunday afternoon at SECU Arena.
Maryland topped the field with a 196.450, with the Colonials not far behind at 196.025. New Hampshire finished third with 194.875, the host Tigers took fourth with an even 194.000, and Pittsburgh rounded out the field with 193.850.
GW earned its first score above the 196.000 threshold behind a season-high 49.125 on vault, a 48.875 on bars, a season-high 48.975 on beam, and a 49.050 on floor.
In the all-around, fifth-year co-captain Alex Zois finished atop the podium for the eighth time this season with a career-high matching 39.425. The Crofton, Md., native earned her 39.425 behind a career-high 9.925 on vault, a 9.775 on bars, a season-high matching 9.875 on beam, and a 9.850 on floor. Zois also finished the afternoon making a trio of podium appearances.
Four Colonials also finished the day either matching or surpassing their career-highs while three gymnasts earned a spot on the podium in the regular season finale.
ROTATION ONE
GW got the day started on floor, posting its second straight score above a 49.000, and fourth score above that threshold this season, with a 49.050. Zois and Cydney Crasa led the way, earning identical 9.850s to kick off the afternoon of competition. Rachel Kaplan followed closely behind with a 9.800, her third score on floor at or above a 9.800 this season. Olivia Raymond and Katya Karpova rounded out the Colonials' floor lineup with matching 9.775s.
ROTATION TWO
The Colonials then took to vault, where they had their best event of the day, earning a season-high 49.125. Just three meets after setting a new career-high on vault with a 9.875 on GW's senior day (3/1), Zois surpassed her personal best once again, posting a 9.925 with a beautiful stick to earn the vault crown. Fellow co-captain Julia McLaughlin also had a career-high day on vault, earning a score of 9.825 to finish in a tie for third with Anna Warhol, who matched her personal best with the 9.825. Crasa added a 9.800 and Vitoff registered a 9.750 to wrap up GW's season-high performance.
ROTATION THREE
The career-high scores kept coming for the Colonials in the third rotation, as Hannah Cohen posted a personal-best 9.850 to lead GW to its 48.875 on bars. Cohen also earned a spot on the bars podium in a tied for second place. Simone Banen, Warhol, and Zois also had solid routines, earning matching 9.775s, while Raymond posted a 9.700 to add to the Buff and Blue score.
ROTATION FOUR
GW ended its day on a high note, earning a season-high score of 48.975 on beam. Zois and Cohen paced the squad with 9.875s to finish in a tie for second. For Zois, the score matched her season-high, while for Cohen, the 9.875 matched her career-high. Raymond added a season-high matching 9.775, Banen followed closely behind with a 9.750, and Zona earned a 9.700 to close out the Colonials' strongest meet of the season.

With the regular season coming to a close, the Colonials will head back to New Hampshire for EAGL Championships next Saturday, March 23.
