Fath Collects Two Medals at CSCAA National Invitational

Colonials are fourth entering final day
CLEVELAND - Moritz Fath picked up his second individual medal in as many days at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship, taking bronze in the 200-yard freestyle to lead George Washington men's swimming and diving on Friday.
The junior from Germany followed up his silver-medal performance in the 500-yard freestyle with another podium finish at Cleveland State's Busbey Natatorium. He dropped more than two seconds off his prelim time to touch in 1:36.38.
To close the night, Fath grabbed silver as part of the 800-yard free relay, teaming with Dylan Arzoni, Youssef Ragab and Max Forstenhaeusler to finish in 6:31.40 behind only gold-winning Indiana.
The Colonials rank fourth out of 25 teams in the standings with 327 points, heading into the final day of competition. Indiana (553) leads followed by Cal Baptist (445.5) and Ohio State (373.5).
Fresh off Friday's record effort in the 200-yard individual medley, Emils Pone placed fifth in the 400-yard individual medley in 3:51.75. The junior from Latvia finished seventh in prelims before moving up two spots with a 2.86-second improvement in the final.
Pone was also part of GW's 200-yard medley team, which clocked fifth in 1:28.73 to open the night. Tommi Wolst, James Torrez and Alexander Auster were his teammates there.
Three Colonials advanced in the 100-yard backstroke, paced by Andrew Cho's eighth-place finish in 48.65 seconds. Wolst won the B final for 11th in a personal-best time of 48.48 seconds and Torrez landed 18th (:49.66).
First-year Josh Legge joined Fath in the 200 free finals, taking 14th in 1:39.39, good for a spot on GW's all-time top 10.
Ragab placed 14th in the 100-yard breaststroke, earning a spot on all-time top 10 in the event with his finals time of 55.11 seconds.
Forstenhaeusler paced the Colonials with a 15th-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, touching in a career-best time of 48.74 seconds. Torrez tied for 20th in prelims before losing a swim-off for the last finals spot to Iona's Jalen Ramjohn. The first-year's time of 48.89 seconds in his second swim was a career best that ranks No. 3 on the program's all-time top 10.
UP NEXT: The action concludes Saturday with another full day of racing. Prelims are set for 9:30 a.m. followed by finals at 6 p.m.
