Anderberg delivers game-winning three-run triple in fifth

ARLINGTON, Va. - After taking Saturday off due to inclement weather, the GW baseball team picked up where it left off from Friday's doubleheader whitewash and completed the sweep of Saint Peter's, 7-5, at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park on Sunday afternoon.

Unlike Friday's consecutive shutouts, GW found itself trailing, 4-3, heading to the home half of the fifth thanks to a four-run top of the fourth from the Peacocks. The Colonials loaded the bases with one down and tied the game when first-year Noah Levin was hit by a pitch. Junior Greg Anderberg then stepped in and tripled to right to clear the bases and move the Colonials back ahead, 7-4.

Saint Peter's drew a run closer in the seventh on a wild pitch, but junior Keagan McGinnis retired all seven Peacocks he faced, three via strikeout, to shut the door and earn his first save in the Buff & Blue.

GW had moved in front earlier in the game via an RBI double from sophomore Trevor Kuncl in the second and a run-scoring fielder's choice off the bat of classmate Tyler Hix in the third.

After Saint Peter's took the lead, 4-2, the Colonials drew a run closer via an RBI fielder's choice from first-year Cade Fergus in the bottom of the fourth.

First-year Rich Pfluger earned the win in relief for GW, yielding just one run on two hits in 3.1 innings. Redshirt senior starter Brady Renner tossed 3.1 frames as well, allowing four runs on three hits and three walks with four punchouts.

Anderberg was one of eight different Colonials to record a hit, scoring twice and driving in three. Junior Nate Fassnacht scored twice out of the leadoff spot.

GW continues its seven-game homestand with a mid-week matinee against local foe Georgetown on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. with the game streamed live on ESPN+. Admission is free.
