Colonials to host 11 matches at home
2020 Schedule
WASHINGTON – After a strong fall season, the George Washington women's tennis team is set to host 11 opponents at home as part of its 19-match 2020 spring schedule, head coach Torrie Browning announced on Wednesday.
"I am really looking forward to the spring," Browning said. "I believe our schedule is going to be challenging, yet really beneficial for the team. We have a couple of schools on the schedule from power-five conferences such as West Virginia in the Big 12 and Maryland in the Big Ten. I'm really excited to see how we do against top level competition."
"We are a young, talented group that has a lot of potential. I know the spring is going to bring great opportunities for us to continue to grow and get better."
GW will kick off dual match play on the road at William & Mary (Jan. 25) before opening its home slate at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center (SETLC) on Jan. 28 against Coppin State. The Colonials will then get their first taste of conference action on Feb. 1 when they host Duquesne.
The Buff and Blue will then head to West Virginia on Feb. 8 before returning home to welcome Delaware (Feb. 14) and Navy (Feb. 22) to the District.
The Colonials will then make a swing down south to face James Madison (Feb. 23), East Carolina (Feb. 29) and UNCW (March 1). The team will return to SETLC on March 12 to host local rival Howard before going head-to-head with Big Ten opponent Maryland on March 14 in College Park.
The Buff and Blue will wrap up March against a pair of conference opponents with back-to-back bouts against Rhode Island (March 27) and Richmond (March 28) at home. The squad will wrap up its three-match homestand against Georgetown on April 4.
The Colonials will face their fourth DMV opponent of 2020 on April 5 when they make the short trip to Towson.
The Colonials will close the regular season with a quartet of matches against conference foes. GW will play back-to-back matches against Fordham at home (April 11) and VCU on the road (April 12) before wrapping up the regular season with bouts against Davidson (April 18) and Saint Joseph's (April 19) at the GW Tennis Center.
The 2020 Atlantic 10 Championship will take place from April 22-25 at the USTA National Campus.
