Women’s Soccer Takes Home Six A-10 Postseason Honors

A-10 Postseason Awards
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The George Washington women's soccer squad garnered six Atlantic 10 postseason honors, the league announced on Thursday.
Megan McCormick | First Team
McCormick earns A-10 First Team recognition for the first time in her career after a standout season as GW's starting center back. The three-year team captain has started all 19 contests in 2019 and ranks third on the squad with her career-high 10 points on five goals. McCormick also ranks fifth on the team with 1,724 minutes played on the pitch. The Hockessin, Del., native has helped turn GW's back line into one of the best in the conference, boasting a 1.04 GAA in A-10 action and securing five shutouts, four of which have come in conference play.
Rachel Sorkenn | Second Team
Sorkenn has made a splash in her first season in the Buff and Blue and paces the squad with 23 points in 2019. The forward has scored six of her nine goals in conference play and has contributed five helpers along the way. Sorkenn finished the regular season ranking first in the A-10 with her 1.94 shots per game and also ranks fourth in shots (57), fifth in points (21), seventh in goals (9) and ninth in assists (5).
Maria Pareja | Second Team
After being named to the All-Rookie team last season, Pareja turned it up a notch in 2019 to earn her second postseason honor. The Fairfax, Va., native ranks tied for second on the squad with 15 points (6g, 3a) and has started in 18 of 19 contests this season. Her 0.718 shots on goal percentage (28-39) also ranks first among offensive players along with her four game-winning goals. The sophomore earned A-10 Player of the Week honors earlier this season after going on a four-game goal streak with consecutive tallies against Towson, Bucknell, UMBC and La Salle.
Madi Coyne – Second Team
Coyne earns her first career postseason honor after stepping into a starting role in her sophomore season. The center back has started all 19 contests in 2019 and ranks fourth on the squad with a career-high eight points on four goals. Coyne has played an integral role on GW's back line this season, helping the back line to their 1.04 GAA in A-10 action and five shutouts in 2019. The sophomore also ranks fourth on the team with her 1,762 minutes played.
Hannah Zaluski – Second Team
Zaluski wraps up her sophomore season with her second postseason honor. After being the only first-year student-athlete to start all 19 contests last season, Zaluski held onto her starting spot in 2019 and was a fixture on GW's back line. She ranks third on the squad with 1,762 minutes played and first among defenders with her five helpers in 2019, all of which have come in conference play. The defender also found the back of the net against Massachusetts to add to her offensive production.
Tamaki Machi – All-Rookie Team
In her first year with the Colonials, Machi earns All-Rookie Team recognition after starting all 19 games, the only first-year on the squad to do so. The Tokyo, Japan, native finished the regular season with 77 saves and a 1.12 GAA, a mark that ranks fourth in the A-10. She also ranked sixth in the A-10 with her .786 save percentage and fifth with her 4.28 saves per game. Machi has also secured five shutouts this season, four of which have come in A-10 action.
