Colonials travel to George Mason Thursday, host Saint Louis for #KickorTreat on Sunday
KICKING OFF: The George Washington women's soccer team is set to cap its regular season this week. The squad will first make the short trip to Revolutionary Rival George Mason on Thursday at 7 p.m. before returning home to host Saint Louis for their regular season finale on Sunday for at 1 p.m.
#KICKorTREAT: The Colonials will look to Pack the Vern on Sunday for their game with the Bilikens. The free-for-all-fans match will feature trick-or-treating with GW's athletics teams, a monster march at half time and FREE food.
LAST TIME OUT: On a rainy afternoon at the GW Soccer Field, the Colonials (12-1-3, 7-0-1 A-10) took a triumphant win over the visiting St. Bonaventure Bonnies, 2-1, on Sunday. The Buff and Blue scored a pair of goals in the first half and were able to stall the Bonnies in the second to cement their Senior Day victory.
O FROM D: GW's center backs, Megan McCormick and Madi Coyne, have both hit career-highs in goals scored in 2019. McCormick leads all defenders with 10 points on five goals while Coyne follows closely behind with eight points on four goals. Both center backs scored last week, with McCormick converting from a corner kick with a header in the Colonials' 2-0 shutout over Saint Joseph's, and Coyne getting a header of her own in GW's win over St. Bonaventure.
SHARP SHOOTERS: The Colonials rank second in the nation with 10.0 shots on goal per game, sitting just behind #2 Stanford (10.79). GW also ranks tied for 12th with its won-lost-tied percentage of .844, a mark that also places them at the top of the A-10.
DOWN TO THE WIRE: With the Colonials win on Sunday, GW returned to the top of the Atlantic 10 with Saint Louis. The Bilikens saw their winning streak come to an end at George Mason, playing the Patriots to a 0-0 draw that ended in the 70th minute due to inclement weather. Massachusetts rounds out the top-three in the conference, owning a 5-2-1 record in A-10 action.
ABOUT GEORGE MASON: Despite the poor conditions, the Patriots (3-10-2, 1-6-1 A-10) had one of their best games of conference play on Sunday and were able to hold Saint Louis scoreless, playing them to a 0-0 draw. George Mason sits at the bottom of the A-10, with its lone win coming at Davidson, 1-0.
ABOUT SAINT LOUIS: The Bilikens (12-3-2, 7-0-1 A-10), will look to regain the solo conference lead when they head to Richmond on Thursday before facing the Colonials on Sunday. Saint Louis owns the series, 3-8-0, having come out on top the last three meetings.
ON THE HORIZON: At the conclusion of the regular season, the top eight squads will advance to the A-10 Tournament, with the quarterfinal rounds being contested at campus sites. The semifinals and final round will be held on Friday, November 8 and Sunday, November 9 at Saint Louis' Herman Stadium.
