Women’s Soccer Plays George Mason to a Draw

Colonials to play Saint Louis in regular season title game on Sunday
FAIRFAX, Va. – In its penultimate game of the regular season, the George Washington women's soccer squad battled Revolutionary Rival George Mason to a 2-2 double overtime draw.
GW (12-1-4, 7-0-2 A-10) had three scoring opportunities in the overtime periods but could not find the back of the net as the Colonials went the distance with George Mason with neither side tallying in extra sessions.
Despite the draw, the Colonials still have a chance to clinch the Atlantic 10 regular season conference title on Sunday against Saint Louis. A GW win would secure the regular season conference crown.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• 33rd Minute – After rattling off nine shots while holding the Patriots to two in the opening minutes of play, GW was the first to get on the board with a strike from Kelly Amador. GW 1, GMU 0
• 52nd & 53rd Minute – Mason came out hot in the second half and scored back-to-back goals just one minute apart. GMU 2, GW 1
• 66th Minute – The Colonials didn't take long to respond and tied it up with a goal from Anyssa Ibrahim. Ibrahim took a pass from Sofia Pavon and shot the ball into the top right corner of the net. GW 2, GMU 2
NOTEWORTHY
• Amador and Ibrahim's goals mark their second tallies of the season.
• GW held a 15-8 shots advantage, with 11 of those shots coming on goal.
• The Patriots held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
• Pavon paced the squad with six shots on the night while Ibrahim and Rachel Sorkenn registered three apiece.
