
Women’s Soccer Returns Home for Pair of A-10 Matchups

Colonials host Saint Joseph’s on Thursday; welcome St. Bonaventure for Senior Day on Sunday
KICKING OFF: After three straight contests on the road, the George Washington women's soccer team is set to make its return to the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus on Thursday to take on Saint Joseph's at 3 p.m. before hosting St. Bonaventure on Sunday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
LAST TIME OUT: The Colonials (10-1-3, 5-0-1) battled VCU to a 2-2 double overtime draw on Sunday afternoon. After a late comeback goal off a penalty kick from Sofia Pavon to tie the score at two with seven minutes to play, GW had a pair of scoring opportunities in the overtime periods, but could not find the back of the net as the Colonials went the distance with VCU with neither side tallying in extra sessions.
SENIOR SALUTE: GW will celebrate its senior class of Megan McCormick, Olivia Di Cristofaro, Sofia Pavon, Anya Heijst, Annie Pierce and Deena DeSilva on Sunday in a ceremony starting at 12:45 p.m.
SORKENN SCORES: Rachel Sorkenn paces the squad with 19 points (7g, 5a). The redshirt sophomore finished the weekend with a trio of tallies, first scoring a pair of back-to-back goals at Delaware State on Thursday to match her single-game season-high before adding another strike on Sunday at VCU. Sorkenn has played her best soccer in conference play, scoring four of her seven goals against A-10 opponents.
ON TARGET: The Colonials rank second in the nation with 10.50 shots on goal per game, sitting just behind #2 Stanford (11.23). GW also ranks 15th with its won-lost-tied percentage of .821.
ATTACKING THE ATLANTIC: With their draw at VCU, the Buff and Blue slips to second in the Atlantic 10, just behind Saint Louis, who sits at the top of the conference with a perfect 6-0-0 record. Dayton (3-1-2) ranks third while Dayton, Davidson, and Massachusetts are in a tie for fourth with a 3-2-1 mark in conference play each.
ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S: The Hawks (6-7-1, 3-3 A-10) are coming off a 1-0 double overtime victory over Duquesne on Sunday. Dakota Mills ranks first on the squad with six points on three goals while Cameron Perrott paces the team between the pipes with 38 saves and 0.85 GAA. GW owns the 9-7-3 series lead.
ABOUT ST. BONAVENTURE: The Bonnies (5-8-1, 1-4-1 A-10) travel to the District after their first win in conference play over Richmond, 2-1, on Sunday. The Colonials hold a dominant 14-5-2 advantage in the series, having won the last four meetings.
